Body Of Missing Fisherman From Turkey Who Fell Off Kayak Found On Jersey Shore Riverbank

Authorities in Monmouth County on Monday recovered the body of a man who went missing after falling out of a kayak last week.

Nedim Aksoy, 50, of Bordentown was one of two men who fell out of kayaks while fishing near the Oceanic Bridge in Rumson around 11 p.m. Thursday, June 4, the U.S. Coast Guard said.

While one of the men was wearing a life jacket and able to swim safely to the shore, Aksoy was not wearing one and instead vanished underwater, authorities said.

The kayak was later found washed up on the shore.

Aksoy’s body was found near Plum Island in Sandy Hook around 8 a.m. Monday, authorities said, adding that strong thunderstorms likely contributed to the accident.

The Turkish American Organizations Association mourned the death of Aksoy on social media.

"Again we were burned, again our hearts are burned," the organization said. "Our brother, my brother from giresunlu, who went to the sea with a friend to do what he loved most about four days ago, was lost due to weather conditions and unfortunately, he was found to his dead body this morning.

"We wish God's mercy and condolences to the fans."
